Small children are incredibly inquisitive and more than able to grasp the basic concepts of math through play activities and structured learning. At the pre-primary level children are able to recognize and say the numbers, understand that numbers represent an amount of objects, they can add or take away, differentiate the objects by size, shape and colour. They are able to respond very well to the topics of scale and volume too. Foundational math knowledge and skills set the children for academic success in higher sections and beyond.
Considering Math is Everywhere! MSB Nursery Section had organized the MATH ENCOUNTER DAY on April 9th 2021 for KG 2 Children and their mothers whereby teachers had displayed all the math-related activities and games at various stations. Parental engagement influenced the children to develop and enhance their mathematical skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, reasoning, and comparing as they got one to one attention. The event began with Tilawat ud dua, followed by number and colour rhymes recitation by the children, some interesting muntalaq islamic related questions for the mothers, and the activities at different stations which included fishing game, pyramid building, balloon and number value game, measurement of animals, lock and key activity, lego counting, pizza making, number and shapes dominoes, Uno, T-shirt missing numbers and many more.
Our goals of building expertise in math, creating interest and enthusiasm towards learning were achieved through this event as all the mothers felt connected to how we introduce basic math concepts with common materials for hands-on experience. Mothers appreciated the efforts of the teachers and thoroughly enjoyed this fun math format. Shukr Alhamdolillah
